About Hobby'dev

This website exists as a platform for all kinds of spare time software development projects. It covers it all from draft, prototype, alpha, beta, released, maintained, to frozen. It can be used as a notepad, documentation tool, discussion thread, devlog, ...etc.

Hobby'dev is mostly a space of freedom, so right now (2018/06/29) we don't know how it will evolve.

Why Hobby'dev

Not all of us are IT professionals, or expert developpers. I don't dev for a living. I just like having ideas, implementing them or not, having headaches and publishing things. Often, it's just a fast project, a simple concept or a small draft. I still need to publish it somewhere, because if I don't, it simply does not exist.

Sure, you have your github account, as I do, but sometimes it's like a rocket launcher to kill a bird. You just need a draft.txt file somewhere on the web.

We have source code highlighting, editing pages is as fast as can be, and we can link projects to one another. Everything we need :)

The way I see it, every computer hobbyist has nice ideas that pop up every now and then. But you don't always implement them, because you have 1000 projects, like anybody else, or you just quick-hack a proto, in some deep folder of your laptop, just to see it running. Then it's lost. But if many creators put these transient sparks in a same place, this very wiki, it would start being a giant brainstorming, a cauldron of creativity.
